Mod Green Pod for VANS

Behold.

Yes, that's our organic cotton on Vans, for their Spring '09 Vault line, due to hit select stores later this month.  From left to right: Atticus basil, Atticus cherry, Wee Jubilee licorice & Wee Jubilee raspberry.  

Soon, we'll have a list of retailers who will be carrying them and if you email us, we'll happily send you that list.  Meanwhile, you can pick up coordinating totes or fabric on our website!

New press: Interior Design

Starting in January, we began receiving requests for info on an old favorite but discontinued print, Adelaide, and we thought it was odd that so many people wanted a particular colorway of a print we no longer carry.  Then, out of the blue, while flipping through a recent issue of Interior Design magazine, I spotted our beloved, discontinued print!  Mystery solved.  

I love how ID paired Adelaide with the other gorgeous fabrics in this spread:

Nancy's chair: Fun at the laundromat

I was happy when Lizzie and Amanda said that I could save the old feather cushion for my chair.  I was even happier when they told me I could wash and dry the whole thing, and can do so periodically to keep it clean.  So I zipped off to the laundromat to use the oversized machines.

I also learned a nice trick for drying and fluffing the feathers in the dryer:  a few tennis balls!  (Yes, I got some strange looks.)

Nancy's chair: update!

My chair is almost ready to come home!  

After a long but fruitful search for organic cotton batting, Lizzie and Amanda hand-tied the original springs, returned some of the original materials to their place, then added luxuriously soft organic cotton batting and muslin, then began attaching the fabric.  Last is the piping and the cushion.

MGP DIY: Quilt preview

Last fall, when we produced the Bloom Collection, we had the ability to work with our wonderful weaver to perfect our organic cotton ground cloth.  The result is a gorgeous canvas that is both heavyweight enough for upholstery but still soft enough for duvets and quilts, like the one I recently started making.  I'm so happy to report that it is such a pleasure to work with.   

When the quilt is finished, I'll post more photos of it in its entirety and will write about the process, but I'm just so excited about it that I want to share a sneak preview now!

Slow fabric?

Here is a link to a great article about "Slow Fashion," roughly defined as "durable, made from recycled or organic materials, and made by someone paid a 'living wage.'

This article perfectly defines Mod Green Pod's mission to create something that is beautiful, lasting and made with integrity.  Our fabric is about safety for the planet, the workers involved in the production process and your home and family.  We're "slow fabric."  

Mod Green Pod fabric might cost a little more than similar fabric you can buy for half as much at a chain store, but do you know where that fabric was made and what chemicals were used to make it?  Is it safe for your family?  And was its production safe for the people whose hands touched it throughout the manufacturing process?  Most fabric is NOT made with integrity, the safety of the planet, producers and your pod (and your peeps!) in mind, but ours is!

Shout out to the fabulous Kathie Sever of Ramonster, who is mentioned in this article.  She and I are currently collaborating on one of her signature western shirts using Mod Green Pod fabric.  I can't wait to blog about it very soon!
